Shinkyo Bridge

神橋

This sacred bridge stands at the entrance to Nikko's shrines and temples, and technically belongs to Futarasan Shrine. The bridge is ranked as one of Japan's three finest bridges together with Iwakuni's Kintaikyo and Saruhashi in Yamanashi Prefecture.

Toshogu Shrine

日光東照宮

The gorgeous Toshogu is a shrine where Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first shogun of the Edo era, was enshrined. The five-storied pagoda is carved with sculptures of animals of the zodiac, and there are many attractions such as sculptures of three wise monkeys, sleeping cats, legendary Chinese creatures, and ceiling paintings of the crying dragon, so even children can enjoy!

Futarasan Shrine

日光二荒山神社

Futarasan Shrine stands next to Toshogu in central Nikko. It enshrines Mt. Nantai, a symbol of Nikko. Recently, it is famous as a shrine that has the benefit of marriage. A wide variety of Omikuji are also popular, so be sure to check them out!

Rinnoji Temple

日光山輪王寺

Rinnoji is Nikko's most important temple. The temple's main building, the Sanbutsudo, houses large, gold lacquered, wooden statues of Amida, Senju-Kannon ("Kannon with a thousand arms") and Bato-Kannon ("Kannon with a horse head").

Yuba is one of Nikko's specialties, the byproduct of boiled soy-milk. Not only eat Yuba as it is, but also try a variety of yuba menus such as yuba ramen, age yuba manju, and yuba musubi! Soba is delicious where the water is clean! And the wasabi that accompanies the soba is also grown in a place with clean water. Please eat freshly beaten soba. If you want to eat meat, you should eat the finest quality Tochigi brand beef!

鬼怒楯岩大吊橋

The Kinutateiwa Ohtsuribashi is the long suspension bridge for walking use only and connects the hot-spring town and Tateiwa and is 140m in length. The high masculine looking Tateiwa (100m high gigantic rock) and the feminine landscape of the river Kinugawa are well balanced and therefore, it has become to be famous as a match-making site.

Kegon Waterfall

中禅寺湖華厳滝

The almost 100 meter tall Kegon Waterfall is the most famous of Nikko's many beautiful waterfalls. It can be seen from a free observation platform that is easily accessible on foot, as well as from a paid platform at the base of the falls. The paid platform is accessed via a 100 meter deep elevator and offers more impressive views.

Lake Chuzenji

中禅寺湖

Lake Chuzenji is a scenic lake in the mountains above the town of Nikko. It is located at the foot of Mount Nantai, Nikko's sacred volcano, whose eruption blocked the valley below, thereby creating Lake Chuzenji about 20,000 years ago. Also recommend a course where you can take a pleasure boat and view the sights of the lake.

Sights Information

Senjogahara Marshland

At an altitude of 1400 meters above sea level, the Senjogahara Marshland covers the plateau between Lake Chuzenji and Yumoto Onsen. It offers some of the best hiking in the Nikko National Par.

Ryuzu Waterfall

Ryuzu Waterfall means "dragon head waterfall" in Japanese. The name comes from the shape of the falls, which resembles the head of a dragon. The waterfall is located on Yukawa River, shortly before the river discharges into Lake Chuzenji.

Yutaki Waterfall

There is an elegance to the water gliding out over the black rock surface. The bubbling water in harmony with the spring flowers and the autumn foliage is a sight so lovely you will never forget it.

Tamozawa Imperial Villa

Tamozawa Imperial Villa blends traditional Edo and early modern Meiji Period architecture throughout its 106 rooms. The villa was erected in Nikko in 1899, using parts of a residence that originally stood in Tokyo.

Tobu World Square

Tobu World Square is a theme park in Kinugawa Onsen that exhibits 1/25th scale replicas of famous buildings from around the world. The models include ancient monuments, cultural treasures and UNESCO World Heritage Sites The illuminations held in winter are so fantastic!

Akechidaira Plateau

Akechidaira Plateau is located near the top of the ascending Irohazaka Winding Road. At the plateau, there is a parking lot with a free observation area that offers nice views onto the Irohazaka and the valley below.

Okunikko Yumoto Onsen

Yumoto onsen is a small hot spring town in the back of Okunikko and part of Nikko National Park. The town is attractively located next to Lake Yunoko (lit. "hot water lake") and consists mainly of ryokan with hot spring baths.

The Hidden 3 waterfalls

The three waterfalls in Kirifuri Plateau, Makkura Falls, Tamasudare Falls and Tyouji Falls are said to be The Hidden 3 waterfalls. There is a hiking course that takes 2 to 3 hours, so it is recommended for mountain walking.
