Moerenuma Park
The design of the park was based on the concept of the world famous sculptor Isamu Noguchi, “to make the whole a single work of sculpture”. The park itself is a fusion of nature and art, with cherry blossoms in the spring, water sports in the summer, autumn leaves in the fall, and cross-country skiing and sledding in the winter. The park itself is a fusion of nature and art.
Sapporo Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium
The site is known as the place where jumping competition took place at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. From the starting point at an altitude of 307 meters, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Sapporo and the Ishikari Plain, and it is especially worth seeing in winter when the whole area is covered with snow. On days when there are no competitions, you can experience the perspective of a jumper from the observation lounge behind the starting point. There is also the Sapporo Olympic Museum where you can experience winter sports such as ski jumping and bobsleigh, and the French restaurant "Nouvelle Pousse Okurayama" where you can enjoy the beautiful view.
Sapporo Odori Park
Located in the center of Sapporo with the length of about 1.5 km east to west, the park is decorated with colorful seasonal flowers in the green season, the Lilac Festival in spring, the YOSAKOI Soran Festival and Beer Garden in summer, Autumn Fest in autumn, and the White Illumination and Snow Festival in winter. The adjacent Sapporo TV Tower is famous as a landmark of Sapporo, and the view from the observatory is so stunning that you would not want to miss.
Sapporo Maruyama Zoo
Located about 3km west of central Sapporo, one of the major zoos in Hokkaido and is home of 900 animals of 170 species, including mammals, birds and reptiles. The Polar Bear Pavilion, where you can watch the popular polar bears and seals together, has the longest underwater tunnel in Japan, and if your timing is right, you may be able to see a polar bear dive into the tank. In the Ezo deer and wolf house, you can observe the close relationship in the food chain between them, which are only found in Hokkaido. You can also see Ezo squirrels, Ezo snow rabbits, and other local animals that are active in snow season.
