白根神社

Shirane Shrine, a 10-minute walk from the station, has long been a center of mountain worship and was originally located at the top of Mt.Shirane. Once you climb the stone steps, you will find yourself in a sacred atmosphere, separated from the bustle of the hot spring resort area. There is a large ema (votive tablet) on which visitors can freely write their wishes.

湯畑

This is the symbol of Kusatsu Onsen!
Hot spring water is passed through a 40-meter-long flume made of red pine, allowing the hot spring water to collect hot spring flowers with concentrated hot spring ingredients. Kusatsu Onsen is highly acidic and has a sterilizing effect. It is also beautiful at night when it is lit up.

Kusatsu Onsen Netsunoyu

熱乃湯

The bathhouse used to be a public bathhouse, and now a "yumomi" show is held six times a day. Yumomi" is the act of mixing hot water with a long board to lower the temperature of the water. The show is performed to the accompaniment of Kusatsu folk songs, and visitors can experience it for themselves.
In the evening, you can enjoy Onsen rakugo!

西の河原公園

Along with Yubatake, this is one of Kusatsu's most popular tourist spots. From sunset to 10:00 p.m., the park is fantastically illuminated, allowing visitors to enjoy a night stroll. There is a large open-air bath in the park, and enjoying a hot spring bath while admiring the natural beauty of Kusatsu from the large bathtub is also recommended.

It is about a 10-minute drive from the Kusatsu Onsen area and a 30-minute walk from the parking lot. The pure white waterfall flowing over the red rock surface is worth seeing! There is a huge tree nearby that is over 300 years old. Lots of walking and exercise!

Ikaho Onsen

伊香保温泉

Ikaho Onsen is also known as a historic hot spring resort, with two types of hot springs, both of which are gentle and non-irritating.
Stores line both sides of the famous stone staircase, where you can enjoy eating Gunma's specialty, such as tama-konnyaku! There is a cute shrine lined with ducks in the middle of the stone steps.

Mizusawa udon is an udon noodle with a slippery texture made with the pure water of Ikaho. It is said that the udon became a local specialty when it was offered to visitors to the hot-spring cure and to worshippers of Mizusawa Temple. Tamakonnyaku, perfect for eating on the go, is also recommended.

Sights Information

Shima potholes

It is a natural monument of the prefecture located at the entrance to Shima Onsen Hot Spring. The potholes were carved out of the river bottom by the river's currents and whirlpools, and over a long period of time they became circular holes. The large potholes are 3 m deep, and the beauty of the river they inhabit is known as "Shima blue," and you can enjoy the scenery that changes from season to season.

Mt. Iwabitsu

Located between Kusatsu Onsen and Ikaho Onsen, Mt. Iwatitsu is 803 meters above sea level and is crowded with hikers during the season of fresh green and autumn leaves. The view of the rocky cliffs can be enjoyed by driving from the national highway. The view from the top of the mountain is also spectacular!
