HENJOUKOUIN (Or Same Grade/Mt Koya area)

This temple used to be the Imperial Chamber for Emperor Shirakawa, now holding important Japanese national treasures for guests to view. Guests can enjoy rooms facing the bright new garden, with fusuma (Japanese-style sliding doors) covered with gold leaf.

From Koyasan Station (Nankai Koya Line): Take the bus bound for either Okunoin or Ichinohashi and get off at Rengedani. About 1 minute on foot from there.
By car: Exit the Hanwa Expressway at Sennan IC and continue along Prefectural Route Kinokawa Koiki Nodo for about 40 minutes (30 km), then National Route 480 for about 40 minutes (20 km).

Temple lodgings were originally accommodation facilities for Buddhist priests and practitioners, but they now also accept regular tourists.
A Buddhist temple is also located on site, so both staff and priests will offer hospitality to guests.

When staying at this temple lodging, guests can experience the following.

  • Buddhist Image Tracing: Copy Buddhist images.

YOCHIIN (Or Same Grade/Mt Koya area)

General

Kobodai Kukai, have preached the Esoteric Buddhism Shingon Mikkyo into Japan from China and he developed the mountain area as a sanctuary of self discipline. He established monasteries in Koyasan about 1200 years ago. The Shingon Mikkyo originated in India and come to China via the famed Silk Road. Mount Koyasan is the fruit of deep faith of one individual. Its long history and wish for eternal peace and welfare of mankind have been successfully maintained by the faithful followers of Kobodaishi.

Location

From Kansai International Airport Take the Nankai Line from Kansai International Airport to Namba Station then change Nankai Koya Line to go to Gokurakubashi Station. Then change again to the Nankai Cable Line for Koyasan Station. The journey takes about one and half hours. By Car, from Osaka City, take route 310 then Route 371 to get to Hashimoto City. From there to Koyasan take Route 24 to Route 480 (Koyasan Road). It will take about two and half hours.

FUKUCHIIN (Or Same Grade/Mt Koya area)

General

About 2 hours from JR Wakayama Station

KAWAYU MIDORIYA

General

This inn is located in a river valley in a naturally blessed area considered holy ground since ages past as the home of the gods. It features spacious, classical Japanese-style guest rooms, and the open-air bath located on the river bed is Kawayu Onsen's only truly outdoor bath. In the summer, guests can enjoy swimming and river-related activities and will find their minds and bodies refreshed by the soft murmuring of the river through the ravine. For those wishing to visit the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, the inn offers free shuttle service to Hasshinmonoji, Fushiogamioji, and Hongucho.

One of the hotel's attractions is the natural hot spring in the river. Fujiya also features a natural open-air bath with plenty of hot water, and Japanese-style flower arrangements of wild flowers.

Location

Iwasaki, turn left and inland on Route311 until Hongu. Once you are in Hongu area please follow the signs to Kawayu-spa. It takes around 4hours.
