q
What are fuel surcharge fees?

A
The transportation and travel industries have been subjected to airline fuel surcharges (FSC) since February of 2000. This surcharge is based on average fuel prices compiled by the Department of Energy, and was initiated by airlines and other air carriers who purchase fuel on the variable energy market. This operating cost has been uniformly passed on to consumers at both wholesale and retail levels. Furthermore, in October 2001, commercial carriers instituted security surcharges to help finance new mandated aviation security procedures.

q
What is baggage allowance for international and domestic flights?

A
Free Baggage Allowance (CHECKED BAGGAGE) for International flights ONLY
*This is a standard policy. Depending on the airline company, policies may differ and particular items may also be restricted to bring.
It is strongly recommended to check with the airline you take prior to your journey.

<Flights to/from USA including GUAM, SAIPAN>
First Class/Business Class - 2 pieces with total linear dimensions (length+height+width) of each not to exceed 158cm(62in). Each piece must not weigh more than 32kg(70lbs).

Free Baggage Allowance (CARRY-ON BAGGAGE) for International Flights ONLY
*This is a standard policy. Some airlines may have different ones, and some items are restricted to bring, also.
It is strongly recommended to check with the airline you take prior to your journey.
Carry-on baggages should be limited to one piece and the maximum dimensions should not exceed 115cm(45in).
Included in the dimensions are the wheels, handles, side pockets. Furthermore, small personal items such as handbags, cameras, laptops, and other small items may be allowed on board the airplane.

q
What are required documents for international travel?

A
You are required to bring your valid passport, military Identification card, and leave paper (for SOFA status holders or active duty members). Some countries also require Visa, and/or vaccination records). Since it takes time to obtain these documents, please check the embassy (consulate) for required documents well in advance.
Moreover, please keep in mind that you need to have a re-entry permit when you return to Japan. Night Flight is not responsible for the denial of your entry due to expired/invalid passports or the lack of required documents.

q
Are there children discounts on discounted tickets?

A
Although most of the discounted tickets do not have further discounts for children, some tickets have additional children discount rates. Since some of the fares are based on per seat regardless of the age of the passenger, you may have to pay the same price as an adult for a child. This style is commonly taken by Japanese travel agencies to get the best rates from airline companies.

q
Is payment by credit card possible?

A
Payments can be made by credit card. You can pay by VISA, MASTER, AMERICAN EXPRESS or JCB card. When paying by credit card, oftentimes, prices differ from cash payments. Please consult us about the price differences. Please be aware that we cannot accept card payments over the phone, due to general security regulations. We need a written authorization from the purchasing individual. Please ask our agents for further details.

q
What does "Discounted Air Ticket" mean?

A
We only advertise discounted air tickets on our web site. By saying "Discounted Air Tickets", we are referring to airfares that are specially priced for Night Flight by the airlines with which we have business. Airlines generally restrict the number of seats that may be sold at a discounted price. Most discounted fares carry certain travel restrictions such as a minimum/maximum stay requirements, advanced purchase, blackout dates, etc. However, cancellation regulations are not as strict as other types of fares such as APEX fares. The restrictions should be listed in the airfare information.

q
Can I request a specific seat?

A
Specific seats cannot be requested. Airlines generally allocate restricted number of seats randomly and consequently, we cannot assign specific seats even if requested. However, in the case of United Airlines, it is possible to request specific seats. Please note that this request is not 100% guaranteed. Night Flight only mediates between customers and airline companies so therefore cannot be liable for matters concerning seat assignments. We advise you to double-check your seat assignment at the airport check-in counter.

q
Can I get upgrades with the tickets I purchase on this site?

A
Upgrades cannot be made. Airlines generally do not apply upgrade services for air tickets that are discounted. Some carriers allow upgrades for their frequent flyers but it is restricted to a specific type of ticket, such as APEX . For further information on upgrade services, please contact the airline company directly.

q
Can I purchase an air ticket even though I am on the waiting list for cancelled tickets?

A
No. In general, all of your itinerary must be confirmed and fixed before departing Japan. If part of your itinerary is on a waiting list, a ticket cannot be issued to you. In such a case, we will try to look for an alternative flight plan or may ask you to change your flight itinerary.

q
Are parking spaces available when visiting Night Flight?

A
Yes. There are 2 parking spaces in front of the stairs at the entrance of Night Flight.
Please view Access Map

q
I would like to purchase the package deal listed on the web page but can I choose a different hotel, increase/decrease the amount of days in the tour or make other changes?

A
Yes. All are possible. We can alter the tour contents according to what the customer desires.

q
We are thinking of planning a group tour. Are there special rates for groups?

A
If there are 10 customers or more planning to book seats, group discount rates are available. Even if the group is less than 10 customers, please consult us first for possible group rates.

Often Used Vocabulary Words at Travel Agencies

FIX:

If your ticket is specified as "FIXED", your return date cannot be altered after departing Japan. If you need to make changes before departing Japan, we advise to follow the guidelines in our cancellation policy page. "FIXED" type tickets are perfect for customers who know when and where they need to travel and are unlikely to change their plans.

OPEN:

If your ticket is specified as "OPEN", there are no restrictions in changing the itinerary of your return plans. Unlike a fixed ticket, you do not have to return on a fixed date. Open tickets are recommended to customers who may need to change their returning date. However, "OPEN" tickets require extra fees when changes are made. Please confirm with your travel agency on the specific conditions of the "OPEN" tickets at time of reservation.

FIX/OPEN:

If your ticket is specified as "FIX/OPEN", you are required to fix your whole flight itinerary when you purchase the ticket. In spite of this requirement, the return itinerary can be altered after departing Japan. However, some "FIX/OPEN" tickets require extra fees when changes are made to the return itinerary. Please confirm with your travel agency on the specific conditions of the "FIX/OPEN" tickets at time of reservation.

APEX:

"APEX" stands for Advance Purchased Excursion fares. It is a special discounted flight deal offered directly from the airlines. Depending on the airline, there are various limitations with regards to reservation, ticket issuance and duration of stay. In most cases, the ticket must be purchased approximately 14 to 21 days prior to departure to receive this special discount. Cancellation of this type of ticket is not as flexible as discounted air tickets sold at Night Flight.

NORMAL:

Common and fixed economy class fares for all airlines which are set forth by IATA (International Air Transport Association) for each destination. Compared to APEX fares, regulations are less strict and the itinerary is changeable.
